THE MERRY Widow, the much loved Franz Lehár opera, first staged in 1905, is enjoying a new production by The Metropolitan Opera in New York, which Galway audiences can see.
The Met production will be broadcast live via satellite to The Eye Cinema, Wellpark, this Saturday at 6pm, with Renée Fleming as Hanna Glawari, the titular merry widow. Nathan Gunn plays Count Danilo and Kelli O’Hara is Valencienne.
The director and choreographer is Susan Stroman. Designer Julian Crouch and costume designer William Ivey Long have created an art-nouveau setting that climaxes with cancan dancers. The conductor is Andrew Davis.
