Search for First Communion dresses starts already

It’s that time of year again when shopping for First Communion dresses begins.

This year it has begun even earlier with bargains at the Schoolwear Centre’s bonanza sale which finished just before Christmas. However the prices for the 2009 collection are good value, with dresses from €150 upwards, and now that sterling is more favourable, the prices reflect this.

Deposits are welcome and easy payment terms are available of course.

According to the Schoolwear Centre there is absolutely no need to listen to all the negative publicity that surrounds the Communion shopping experience.

“ Our Galway parents are very sensible and do keep in mind what the whole ceremony is all about. In all my years selling Communion dresses I have not met a parent who takes things to the extreme such as the fake tan, etc,” says Frances from the Schoolwear Centre. “ Our parents are way above all this nonsense.

“Our dresses are beautiful and every little girl will be just thrilled with them,” she says.

Rich satins, gentle paper taffetas, chiffon, organza, and soft tulles are used with the most flattering styles. There are full length dresses and tea length dresses. Some are stylishly simple and elegant, while others are adorned with delicate beading and appliquéd embroideries. Many dresses have matching jackets.

Frances says she selects her dresses from reputable suppliers who are the experts in the field.

Accessories are available at the centre, including tiaras, headbands, and veils with matching bags and gloves, while a new shoe collection is also available this year.

“ For the past two years parents and their daughters have been requesting a “ballet” type pump and this year at last there is a really gorgeous one available to us here at the Schoolwear Centre.”

The Schoolwear Centre is located in Centrepoint, Liosbán Galway and also at Chapel Lane Tuam.
