Who was William Wilde?

An illustrated talk about the life of Sir William Wilde, father of Oscar Wilde, will be hosted by the Cong Moytura Heritage Society on January 21.

Wilde had many connections to the west of Ireland, having been born 200 years ago near Castlerea. He had homes in Connemara and near Cong – the home of his maternal grandparents, and is remembered locally for his book about Lough Corrib and Lough Mask.

The talk will explore his fascinating life as well as his connections to Mayo.

Admission to the talk in the Crossroads Community Centre, Cong, (8.30pm ) is free and refreshments will be served. More information is available from [email protected]
