ALAN DOHERTY, the Irish trad musician who performed on the Lord Of The Rings soundtrack, will lead his new band in concert at Monroe’s Live on Thursday January 29.
Aldoc, formed by flautist Doherty, play a mix of Irish trad, African musics, hip-hop, and bluegrass, with influences that range from Bon Iver to Fat Freddy’s Drop, to Sea Sick Steve.
The Aldoc line-up is completed by Gerry Paul (guitar/banjo ), Rasmus Steenholdt Skovmand (drums ), Christof van der Ven (guitar/banjo/vocals ), Tobias Schmitt (vocals/double bass ), Julian Maier-Hauff (trumpet/keys/electronics ), and Sjoerd van der Sanden (keys/electronics ).
Also playing is acclaimed Galway folk supergroup The Whileaways featuring Gradá vocalist Nicola Joyce, singer-songwriter Noriana Kennedy, and Noelie McDonnell a solo artist and member of Leo Moran’s The Cabin Collective. The sound draws on Irish folk and Americana, with an emphasis on vocal harmonies.
