Fregoli is first recipient of Michael Diskin Arts Bursary

GALWAY THEATRE company Fregoli has been chosen as the first recipient of The Michael Diskin Arts Bursary. The committee announced the winner this week, following an application process described as “highly competitive” by the adjudicating panel.

As part of the bursary, Fregoli will perform a new original production in 2015. Commenting on the Award, bursary chair, Claude Madec, said:

“We are certain that their project will fulfil the spirit of the award, which was to bring people together for a shared cultural experience, and we are sure that the general public will be as impressed as we were by what Fregoli have to offer.”

Mr Madec also commended the other applicants, and paid tribute to the musicians and artists who took part in the Concert for Mike last April, to raise funds for the bursary.

“Without the generous contribution of all who took part,” he said, “especially Ollie Jennings who organised the event, and all of the bands who gave so freely of their time, it would not have been possible for us to award this bursary at all. We feel it is a fitting tribute to Michael Diskin, who passed away two years ago, having dedicated his life to the promotion of the arts in Galway.”

Further details on Fregoli Theatre Company’s performance will be announced in the New Year.
