MARY COUGHLAN, the Galwegian rightly regarded as Ireland’s leading jazz and blues vocalist, plays the Town Hall Theatre on Saturday December 20 at 8pm.
Mary perform her trademark songs including ‘The Double Cross’ written by her first husband Fintan Coughlan; ‘Ancient Rain’ by Jimmy MacCarthy, ‘The Magdalene Laundry’ and ‘Delaney’s Gone Back on the Wine’ by Galway writer Johnny Mulhern; and her recent cover of the Joy Division’s ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’.
Her brilliance was summed up by The Financial Times when it said: “Coughlan writes few of her own songs, but her choices and the way she inhabits them turn them alchemically into autobiography. Mary Coughlan is an unlikely but transfixing performer. No one should wish her heartbreak, but everyone should envy her power to transform it.”
Tickets are available from the Town Hall on 091 - 569777 or www.tht.ie
