FOR YEARS, unlike the British, Americans, Irish, Swedes, and Germans, the French struggled to come to terms with rock, but once they hit upon dance and techno, they showed they could easily mix it with the best.
Parisian trio dOP - Clement Zemtsov, Damien Vandesande, and Jonathan ‘Jo’ Illel - will make their Irish debut when they play Lowerstate at The Cellar Underground on Saturday January 31 at 10.30pm.
dOP meld rap, blues, free jazz, house, and experimental pop, into oddly stirring, funky packages, and all with an accomplished, self-regarding rock’n’roll swagger. It has all combined to place them at the cutting edge of contemporary electronic dance music.
Support is from Rory D and Audiofeen. Admission is €12. See also www.myspace.com/dopdopdop and www.lowerstate.ie
