BOB QUINN, the Connemara based film-maker, will be celebrated through song, music, and film at a special event in An Taibhdhearc tomorrow [Friday November 28] at 8pm.
The night will include screenings from Quinn’s earliest films and documentaries, as from his best known work such as Atlantean, Aisling Ghéar, and Vox Humana, which follows the Galway Baroque Choir on tour. Rare footage shot by Quinn will also be shown.
There will also be sean-nós singing from Josie Sheáin Jeaic, Róisín Elsafty, and Bob’s son and editor of the Journal of Music, Toner Quinn. Quinn will also be joined on stage by a host of friends who have worked with him throughout his career.
Originally from Dublin, Quinn moved to Connemara in the 1970s, following many years with RTÉ. His list of film achievements include the first feature length Irish language film, the 1975 classic Poitín, which was shot on location in Connemara.
Quinn is credited by many as the instigator of Teilifís na Gaeltachta (now TG4 ), along with language activists Donncha Ó hÉallaithe and Seosamh Ó Cuaig.
