Last Friday saw leading local property firm DNG Maxwell Heaslip & Leonard bring its latest batch of auction properties to the floor in a packed auction room in the Radisson Blu Hotel. The much-anticipated November auctions saw 17 lots being offered to the floor and the large crowds were not disappointed, with plenty of activity and bidding from the floor.
As is customary with the city based agents, these events now attract huge interest, and as well as the large numbers in attendance on the day the online viewing numbers were, once again, in their thousands. As a leader in both online marketing and traditional media based promotion campaigns, Fergal Leonard reckons the company is at the forefront of its business.

Last Friday saw the St Francis Street agent bring a huge variety of properties to the floor, with lots in Westport, Ballyhaunis, the Aran Islands, Tuam and, of course, Galway city and surrounds.
The first lot of the afternoon was No 43 Cruachan Park in Rahoon, which was being brought to the floor with an AMV of €220,000. Although the bidders were slow to get going, auctioneer James Heaslip waited patiently and when the bidding did eventually open at €210,000, he skilfully managed the proceedings and eventually after a flurry of bids, let the hammer fall at €254,000.
From there the lots came fast and heavy with properties in Tara Grove, Portumna, Tuam, and Winfield Gardens all achieving sales prices well in excess of their guides.
While DNG Maxwell Heaslip & Leonard is renowned for bringing the most diverse range of properties to the market, this particular auction was geared heavily towards investors, who are still looking to buy before the end of the capital gains amnesty. “Eleven of last Friday’s lots were specifically aimed at the investors in the room, with the auction process suiting potential buyers due to its transparency and finality – when you buy in an auction room it’s done, there’s no waiting around for contracts, no chances of sellers changing their minds – it’s final,” Fergal Leonard added.
