Mini convertible to make welcome return

The new Mini convertible is set to make a welcome return to Irish roads in 2009, with a new version (based on the current hatch ) due to go on sale at the end of March.

The Mini crossover concept, shown last October in Paris, is a design study for a fourth variant in Mini's model range. It has four doors, four drive wheels, four single seats, and is four metres in the length. Expect to see production models in early 2010.

There are 500 Mini Es (electric ) being tested by customers in the US and by the carmaker worldwide. One issue is that the batteries have turned the Mini into a two-seater, but you still get boot space. On the plus side, the Mini E has been fully crash-tested to US standards.
