The Clifden Community School public speaking team won the Business Professional Women Connacht Public Speaking Regional Competition held in The Ardilaun hotel on November 11.Ten teams from Connacht took part.
Main speaker, Leaving Certificate student Muireann McGlynn, chose as her topic, ‘Discrimination in the Workplace: Ethical Hiring Practices’.Muireann was supported by her classmates Arlene Walsh Wallace (chairperson ) and Elaine Fahy (voter of thanks ). The adjudication commented in general on the high standard of the competing teams, and commended Clifden Community School in particular for their team work, and the excellent presentation of all three students.The students were mentored by Irene Conneely (teacher ) and Carli Goldfein (visiting student from Vassar University USA ).The team goes forward to the final of the competition on November 22 in Tullamore.
Clifden CS will open its doors to all prospective first year students on Wednesday November 26 at 4.15pm.There will be an opportunity to visit teachers in their classrooms with a view to experiencing a flavour of the comprehensive curriculum offered in the school.Tours will be led by members of the students’council and senior prefects.
Students at Clifden CS have the opportunity to avail of all three areas of the sciences, biology, physics, and chemistry, as well as a broad range of practical subjects such as woodwork, metal work/engineering, DCG/technical drawing, art, home economics, and ICT.The welfare of the students is central to all activity in Clifden CS.
To this end the school has an excellent pastoral team, and offers an extensive range of sporting and cultural activities in the spirit of the school motto: Lux, Pax, Felicitas.
