McKey’s brace earns a point for Galway WFC

Shannon native Lynsey McKey opened her tally for Galway WFC in this season’s Continental Tyres WNL by grabbing two goals in Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Dublin outfit Peamount United.

Galway WFC produced their best display of the season in the opening half of Sunday’s game at Greenogue Park. After 15 minutes McKey popped up to tap home from a goalmouth scramble after a Maebh Coleman cross, but despite being well on top, Galway went in only one goal to the good at the break.

In the second half Peamount gained some composure and were quick on the counter attack, and from a Galway WFC corner, they grabbed the equaliser, turning defence into attack with Sharon Cullen finding the net. Five minutes Cullen had put United ahead.

However Galway regrouped and with 10 minutes to go McKey fired home to make it all square. The final minutes were end-to-end with both sides having chances to take all three points, but in the end both had to settle for a share of the spoils.

Galway WFC have a rest weekend this weekend before they play at home for three successive Sundays against Cork City, Wexford Youths and Raheny United.
