Galway intermediate champions Killanin met their Waterloo last weekend when they were well beaten by an mpressive St Croan's (Roscommon ) at Tuam Stadium by 2-10 to 0-11.
The Roscommon men were strong in possession, very fit and disciplined in the tackle, and most definitely had their homework well done on Pat Quealey's team.
The Killanin manager, who has been a key figure in the club's success this year, was gracious as always even in defeat, and fully acknowledged the better team had won.
"We have no complaints,” he said. “ The better team won on the day. We were without a few players like Ronan and Kieran Caldwell who have emigrated, and James Walsh who was injured, and we would like to have faced them with our full squad available. However, last Sunday, St Croan's was the better side, no doubt about that, and we wish them well. It will be a good team that beats them."
Quealey, however, said their seasonal ambitions had been achieved.
"While we were disappointed last Sunday, we have had a great year and our aim at the start of the season was to get up senior and that objective has been achieved.
"There has been a lot of sadness in our club over the year and the football this season has given us all a big lift and helped to unify the community. It has been great for the parish. It is terrific to see loads of youngsters going around the place wearing the Killanin colours and we are all proud of how the lads have performed all year."
