Long awaited improvement works to the N59 roadway on the approach to Moycullen section, will start on Monday December 1, and include the installation of cycle-lanes, footpaths, and lighting.

The €3.5 million project will enable the widening and re-alignment of the N59 from Clydagh, including Clydagh bridge, into Moycullen. The works will be carried out by Wills Bros Ltd. The Galway County Council is working in conjunction with the Department of Transport, and the National Roads Authority on the project.

The announcement of the start date for the works has been welcomed by Galway West Fine Gael TD Seán Kyne.

“These essential improvement works have been sought by residents and locals over several decades and will greatly improve road safety for drivers, cyclists, pedestrians, residents and visitors alike,” he said.

Dep Kyne warned that there will be “traffic disruption for the duration of the improvement works”, but he said he is hopeful the disruption “will be minimised by a traffic management plan
