Leonard Elschenbroich - charisma and perfection

A PERFORMER of “tremendous assurance and power” whose playing has “depth, expressivity, charisma and perfection” will play Galway next week.

The performer in question is the award-winning German cellist Leonard Elschenbroich, and those words of praise came from both The Guardian and conductor Christoph Eschenbach. Galway will be able to see and hear for itself when Elschenbroich plays the Aula Maxima, NUI Galway, on Wednesday November 26 at 8pm.

The programme will be Bach’s Suite No 1 in G major; Hindemith’s Solo Sonata, Op 25, No 3; Tavener’s Threnos; Kevin Volans’s A Short Walk in the Gardens of Solitude; Piatti’s 12 Caprices, Op 25; and Lombardi’s Essay 3. Elschenbroich will interweave his playing with anecdotes and stories of personal connections to the pieces.

Tickets are €20/16/6 from Music for Galway (091 - 705962, [email protected] ); Opus II, High Street; or www.tht.ie
