A number of second and third level students can avail of free places at a conference which explores how second and third level education prepares young people for the future.
Independent Senator Fidelma Healy Eames is offering 10 free places to local students for the upcoming “Reforming Learning: Driving Success conference which will take place at NUI Galway on Friday December 5.
The event will focus on the quality of senior cycle and third level education in Ireland and how well it prepares young people for the future. Six places will be allocated to senior cycle students locally while two will go to both NUI Galway and GMIT students. To win a free place they are asked to email one idea that would make learning easier for them/others and to explain why in 50 words or fewer. Learning ideas should be forwarded to [email protected] on or before Nov 25. The winners will be informed by Dec 1.
Senator Healy Eames, who is the chairperson of the conference, says it has an excellent line-up of speakers, including the highly sought after Finnish education guru Pasi Sahlberg.
“The key question the conference will address is - ’Is the education system preparing our young people to meet their own needs, the needs of our society - the demands of the workplace, the changing nation?’” says the Oranmore based politician.
“The students voice is central to any meaningful consideration of this subject. As conference chair I would value their input as I know other contributors will too. Policy makers, researchers, practitioners with experience in change and policy development within education and enterprise, and broader society will share their knowledge and expertise, in what promises to be an engaging conference.”
