For the second year in a row, the popular bar and restaurant Blake’s Bar and Brasserie on the Corner on Eglinton Street will host a fundraising coffee morning for local heart and stroke charity Croí. Blake’s Bar and Brasserie on the Corner have a very special connection with Croí ever since their staff member Ulick O’Halloran availed of their services.
This coffee morning is a way of saying “a heart-felt thank you to Croí for saving the life of our colleague” says Brasserie manager Eimear Killian.
“Our staff, friends and suppliers are planning an extra special coffee morning on Friday November 21 from 10am – 12 noon. We will have beautiful teas, coffees by Galway Bay Coffee, treats for all attendees and a super raffle with fantastic prizes with the entire proceeds going to Croí to support their life-saving work in Galway,” said Ms Killian.
Like so many others, Ulick O’Halloran was not aware of the extent of Croí’s involvement in cardiac care services for the West of Ireland.
“I only went to my GP for a check-up after a family member got a sudden health scare, so I was shocked to learn that following further tests I had a leaking valve in my heart.”
He underwent open heart surgery by Dr David Veerasingam in Galway University Hospita and it was there that Ulick learned that much of the Cardiac Unit was funded by Croí and their voluntary fundraisers in the local community.
“The efforts of the surgical team, the nursing staff in the cardiothoracic unit of GUH and the back up support from Croí is nothing short of heroic,” he said.
All are welcome to support the coffee morning.
