Corofin learnt little last weekend

Corofin will enter the Connacht final against Ballintubber on Sunday week with no real test from the last three games. And, might it be fair to say, that also applies to this season’s Galway championship?

I believe their last three winning margins have been 24 points, 18 points, and a whopping 35 points against a totally outclassed Aughawillian last Sunday.

A good training session or a challenge match would have been more beneficial than last weekend’s farcical exercise that became a total mismatch after five minutes of the second half.

When you compare their preparations against that of Ballintubber, there is a big difference in intensity, for the need to dig deep, to get out of trouble and win – a trait that Peter Forde’s charges showed in spades last Sunday including a stunning goal from recent All-Star Cillian O’Connor.

That is not to say that Corofin cannot win in 10 days’ time, but the quality of opposition is definitely an advantage to the Mayo champions.

The total cake walk and procession that Corofin have undergone to get to the Conncaht final is not ideal preparation for a massively tough test and that is what they will get from Alan Dillon, the O’Connor brothers and company.

There will be no 7-20 score-lines in that game.
