New bus and facilities unveiled at Clarenbridge Nursing Home

Marie O’Malley, Director of Nursing and her team recently celebrated the official launch of Clarenbridge Nursing Home’s bus and adapted kitchen when Minister Kathleen Lynch TD performed the opening.

Families, friends and the local community joined the residents at Clarenbridge Nursing Home for an afternoon of good food, drink, oysters and music. Clarenbridge Nursing Home, Ballygarriff, Craughwell, Co. Galway is a purpose built private nursing home. The proprietors of the Clarenbridge Nursing Home are Denis McElligott and Pat Kennedy; they have three other nursing homes in the group. These are Abbott Close in Askeaton, Killeline in Newcastlewest and Windmill in Churchtown.

This new facility is used as a venue to relearn a full range of activities of daily living to include food preparation; light housekeeping; shopping; budgeting etc.

Residents can practice and relearn household skills in comfort and safety, gain confidence and become self reliant. The kitchen has adjustable work tops with remote controlled presses and work tops, with rollunder sinks, accessible sink faucets with a range of household aids and specialist utensils to facilitate people with a range of disabilities.

Clarenbridge Nursing Home received Lottery funding towards the purchase of a new wheelchair accessible bus. This bus gives residents the freedom to access pursuits such as swimming, shopping, leisure and cultural trips, sports and other community events.
