New pedestrian crossings for Oranmore

Three new pedestrian crossings are to be constructed on the Respond Road, Oranmore, following negotiations with the Galway County Council and the Department of Education.

There have been serious concerns over the safety of schoolchildren using the Respond Road as it is an important access route for Gaelscoil de hIde and a rear access to Oranmore BNS. It is used also to a lesser degree by students attending Calasanctius College and Scoil Mhuire.

Reform Alliance senator Fidelma Healy Eames has thanked Galway County Council’s Liam Gavin and Sean Tansey of the Department of Education “for their persistence until these works were signed off”.

The Department of Education is funding the works which are expected to commence in the next few weeks.
