Galway county champions Corofin are expected to be too good this Sunday for Leitrim champions Aughawillian at Carrick On Shannon (2pm ).
The Leitrim men surprised many with their 2-12 to 0-13 win over Tubbercurry two weeks ago in Markievicz Park, and that extra game will be of benefit to them when they meet the 5/2 favourites for the All-Ireland title.
Corofin team captain Michael Farragher, who is currently injured, is adamant Corofin are not looking one inch past next Sunday. And he says all their focus is currently on earning a ticket to a Connacht final, where the winners of St Brigid's and Ballintubber will be waiting.
"We have a good few injuries at the moment and everyone who is unavailable is a loss. Justin Burke (knee ), Kevin Murphy (foot ), Adrian Molloy (knee ) and myself (hamstring ) are all out for the foreseeable future and while it is desperately disappointing to miss the game, the most important thing is that we get a win."
Farragher, who is an engineering student alongside teammate Ronan Steede at GMIT, had enjoyed a fine season before tearing his hamstring with 10 minutes remaining into the county final against St Michael's.
"We have been working very hard all year and now all the injured lads are just focussing on getting their rehab done and hoping their injuries will clear up as soon as possible. Our absence on Sunday will give opportunities for others to get starting jerseys and thankfully we have a strong panel so there is lots of competition for places. We would love to get back to another Connacht final, but to do that we have to beat Aughawillian in three days’ time. We always take it one game at a time and when any team stops doing that, they are in big trouble."
