Corinthians bagged their second win in the Ulster Bank League when they came out on top against Connacht rivals Buccaneers by 10-14 at Dubarry Park.
Not only did the victory ensure Corinthians moved up the division 1B league table, but it was the perfect fillip for the Cloonacauneen outfit before hosting city rivals Galwegians tomorrow evening (7.30pm ).
Corinthians, having dominated the opening 20 minutes and produced three scoring chances, found themselves down by three points at the break. Having outhalf Conor Murphy yellow-carded and then prop Mark Byrne, Buccaneers Alex Hayman converted one of two penalties for a 3-0 lead at the break.
However Corinthians were rewarded in the 48th minute when their pack mauled their way forward with Eoghan Masterson touching down under the posts, and Murphy added the extras to take a 3-7 lead.
Corinthians then made the most of a penalty kicked to touch with hooker Pat O'Toole skating in a converted try for a 14-3 lead.
The Midlanders threw their all at the Cloonacauneen outfit and eventually broke through in the 70th minute with a Martin Staunton try, converted by Hayman, but Corinthians regained control to hold out for a deserved win.
