A former mayor of County Galway is demanding that Irish Water and the Government clarify the future funding of rural group water schemes.
Independent county councillor Seán Canney is seeking assurances that the present level of funding, in terms of the annual subvention to the group schemes, will remain in place.
“Group water schemes have been the backbone of rural Ireland for years,” he said. “They have provided clean drinking water to thousands of homes and farms, and the trustees and officers of the schemes have given their time free of charge and receive no bonus.”
