Junior Galway Film Fleadh film skills workshops

WORKSHOPS FOR teens in animation, concept design, visual effects, and special effects will be held as part of this year’s Junior Galway Film Fleadh.

John T Coomey, lead animator on Doc McStuffins, and who has also worked on Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 and Adventure Time, will give the animation workshop. The concept design workshop, covering both film and video games, will be given by Eva Widermann (Disney City Girl, Dungeons & Dragons RPG, Duel Masters TCG ). It will show participants how to create character art and illustration through traditional and digital media tools.

The Introduction to the World of Visual Effects will be taught by VFX artist Paul Barrett, whose work includes Igam Ogam. He will cover time remapping, green screen, croma key, and compositing in After Effects. The Web Design Workshop will provide expertise in building a website. The special effects make-up workshop will be given by Ciara O’Neill, who will teach participants how to create blood, scars, and monster make-up using practical make-up techniques. ,The costume design/cosplay workshop will demonstrate how to transform a person through fabric choices, wig styling, prop making, measurements, and presentation.

Workshops are on Saturday November 15 in the Town Hall Theatre and NUI Galway. Places are limited and must be booked in advance. The cost is €12.50 for each class or €20 for two workshops. For more information see www.galwayfilmfleadh.com
