Clarenbridge Nursing Home launches new facilities

Clarenbridge Nursing Home, Ballygarriff, Craughwell, Co Galway is a purpose built private nursing home. The proprietors of Clarenbridge Nursing Home are Denis McElligott and Pat Kennedy; they have three other nursing homes in the group. These are Abbott Close in Askeaton, Killeline in Newcastlewest, and Windmill in Churchtown.

The nursing home has recently fitted out an adapted kitchen. This new facility is used as a place to relearn a full range of activities of daily living including food preparation, light housekeeping, shopping, and budgeting. Residents can practice and relearn household skills in comfort and safety, gain confidence, and become self reliant. The kitchen has adjustable worktops with remote controlled presses and roll-under sinks, accessible sink faucets, and a range of household aids and specialist utensils to facilitate people with a range of disabilities.

Clarenbridge Nursing Home received Lottery funding towards the purchase of a new wheelchair accessible bus. This bus gives residents the freedom to access pursuits such as swimming, shopping, leisure and cultural trips, sports, and other community events.

On October 15, Marie O’Malley, director of nursing, and her team celebrated the official launch of Clarenbridge Nursing Home’s bus and adapted kitchen. Kathleen Lynch, Minister of State with Responsibility for Older People, showed her support to the nursing home by attending the event and cutting the ribbon. Families, friends, and the local community joined the residents at Clarenbridge Nursing Home for an afternoon of good food, drink, oysters by Brian Martyn, and music by Carmel Dempsey.
