Blues guitarists for Monroe’s Live

A SOUTHERN slideman and an Illinois bluesman, both of whom have won acclaim for their abilities on guitar, will share the stage at Monroe’s Live.

Dan Phelps, from Illinois, has performed acoustic blues for more than 25 years, winning acclaim for his playing style and live performances. As Blues and Rhythm magazine said, “Phelps’ following is justified...with a strong, percussive attack on steel guitar and powerful vocals”.

He has released a number of albums, played across the US and Europe, and supported Pat Donohue, Woody Mann, and Alvin Youngblood Hart.

The Georgia and Texas roots of guitarist/songwriter Matthew Fox run deep. He has steeped himself in a variety of styles from acoustic and bottleneck blues to swing and his original songs are rooted in the Texas story-song tradition.

Acoustic Guitar said of him: “Matthew is so facile with the guitar, with such an easy-going stage presence, that you don't really care what his left and right hand are doing (as a guitarist watching another ), you are only being carried off to where he is taking you.”

Matthew Fox and Dan Phelps play Monroe’s Live on Thursday November 13. Doors 10pm. Admission €5 on the door or through www.monroes.ie and 091 - 583397.
