Become scientists for a day

A day of fun science-related activities for children will be hosted by NUI Galway on Thursday October 30.

Suitable for children aged seven to 13, the science day will include DNA extractions, colourful chemical reactions, and live exotic animals.

The event is being held in conjunction with Cell EXPLORERS, Eco EXPLORERS, and Kitchen Chemistry based in NUI Galway, following the success of their respective roadshows.

Children will learn about the fascinating world of cells and DNA with Cell EXPLORERS, and learn how to design an experiment to extract DNA from fruit that they can do at home with their parents. Kitchen Chemistry will teach children how to make their own glow sticks and how to grow crystals at home, while Eco EXPLORERS will complete the day with an exciting display of live exotic animals, including tarantulas, snakes and stick insects.

All three workshops will be delivered by NUI Galway students and staff members, and will run from 10am to 3pm,

The cost of attending is €10 per child, with discounts available for multiple bookings (€15 for two children, €20 for three children ).

To register, email [email protected] or telephone 091-495748. Registration forms and payments will be organised on the day from 9.30am to 10am. Places are limited.
