Scot McWatt - songs for the working man

GLASWEGIAN SCOT McWatt is a Scottish contemporary folk singer/songwriter with political, pop and blues tendencies, and a distinctly working class outlook on life.

He began writing lyrics at 14 but did not own a guitar until 18. During that time his family could not afford to buy him the instrument, so a friend lent him one. From then, with encouragement from his grandmother, Scott taught himself to play.

After a period dabbling in various rock, metal, and indie bands, Scott finally settled as a solo folk artist. His first album Jekyll and Hyde (2012 ) was well received, while its follow-up, a concept album A Ceist Ama, drew further critical praise. The Herald said his songs “stand shoulder to shoulder with the great Scottish pop bands of the 1980s and 1990s”; while STV Glasgow said his music “combines the joyfulness of indie-rock with the heart-rending intonations of folk music”.

Galway audiences will have a chance to see for themselves when Scott plays Monroe’s Live on Saturday October 25 at 9pm. Tickets are available on the door or through www.monroes.ie and 091 - 583397.
