Property totalling €9 million sold at O’Donnellan & Joyce auction

O’Donnellan and Joyce recorded one of the largest one day sales when the company placed 57 properties up for sale by public auction in the Harbour Hotel, Galway, on Friday. The properties were located throughout the western region from Sligo to Clare. There was enormous interest not only locally but nationally too, with bidders from all over the country.

Colm O’Donnellan of O’Donnellan & Joyce Auctioneers said it was nice to see home buyers acquire properties at very realistic prices, which were not far in excess of the reserve prices. He added that investors chased the large blocks of apartments, which well exceeded expectations.

The auction was divided into morning and afternoon sessions. The morning session comprised investment properties and land and was dominated by properties from receivers. The afternoon session comprised private individual sales, being sold on private instruction.

The first lot of the day was a cottage on 14 acres in Mweenish, Carna, Co Galway, which saw tremendous interest. Bidding started at €70,000, which was the reserve price, and rose rapidly with bids from all over the room until just two individuals were exchanging final bids. The auctioneer’s hammer was eventually brought down at €290,000 to tumultuous applause from the huge attendance.

The next property to be auctioned was a block of four apartments located at Ballybane with a reserve price of €175,000; many different bidders chased this property, which was sold for €300,000.
