‘A vote for McNulty is a vote for cronyism’ - Healy-Eames

A Galway senator has declared that a vote for Fine Gael candidate John McNulty in the Seanad elections “is a vote for cronyism”.

Former Fine Gael, and now Reform Alliance senator, Fidelma Healy-Eames, who was incorrectly reported last week as saying a vote for Fine Gael is a vote for cronyism, was highly critical of An Taoiseach Enda Kenny’s handling of this situation.

Sen Healy-Eames has made it clear that she in no way seeks to denigrate Mr McNulty who, she said, was “the unfortunate victim of a corrupt practice”. Both Mr McNulty, and An Taoiseach, have called on Seanad electors not to vote for him on polling day tomorrow.

Sen Healy-Eames acknowledged that An Taoiseach has described the fall-out from this situation as “not his finest hour” but, she added, it would be “similarly be wrong of him to expect his members to follow him into the abyss in a ‘Pied Piper’ like fashion”. She is now asking, “Will enough
