Three transport groups from across County Galway are joining together to form Galway County Transport Co-ordination Unit.
Under a new strategy, Galway’s three existing Rural Transport Programme groups – Bealach in Carna, Galway Rural Development in Athenry, and South East Galway Integrated Rural Development – will now operate under the CTCU banner.
The new Galway Transport Co-ordination Unit public service office will be operated on a part time basis in Connemara. The plan was originally to located it in Loughrea or Galway city, despite the fact the city is not actually involved in the Rural Transport Programme.
The developments have been welcomed by Fine Gael Galway West TD Seán Kyne, who was concerned that the public office be located in an area where the RTP operate from.
“This will ensure,” he said, “that passengers and service-users from Connemara and for whom Gaeilge is the primary language will continue to have local access to the administration of these vital transport services.”
