Ciarán Walsh - going Beyond Other Voices

GALWAY ARTS Centre will hold the first major Irish exhibition of the work of Ciarán Walsh, Beyond Other Voices, an exploration into personal and collective memory, the uncanny, and allegorical science-fiction.

Beyond Other Voices features photographs, models, an installation, and a video. The photographic series He Cried in a Whisper at Some Image, at Some Vision (2013 ) features silhouettes of undefined museum installations.

The installation Fragments of Unknown Teachings (2014 ) builds upon the aesthetic of the photographic series, while I Grabbed at a Pile of Dust (2014 ) is part of an ongoing series of model constructions based on spaceships, satellites, and space colonies depicted in sci-fi films. In the video work It’s Just a Shadow Away (2011 ), two actors redo scenes from the Andrei Tarkovsky film Solaris in the original Russian.

Ciarán Walsh was born in Carlow in 1980, and received an MA in art in the contemporary world from NCAD in 2007. The exhibition opens tomorrow at 6pm in the centre on Dominick Street and runs until Friday October 31.
