FOLK-ROCK/indie-folk bands Kicking Bird and Cornerboy play Monroe’s Live as part of the Guinness Amplify weekender.
Wexford’s Cornerboy (tonight, 10pm ) play in the nu-folk style, most associated with The Lumineers and Mumford and Sons.
Led by Michael D’Arcy the band’s sound mixes old-timey Appalachian folk harmonies, rousing sea shanties, arena rock sing-along choruses, with a modern indie sensibility.
The band won the Red Bull Bedroom Jam 2013 and have played the Indiependence, Westport, Knockanstockan, Other Voices Derry, and Electric Picnic festivals.
.
Dublin’s Kicking Bird (pictured above ), who play on Sunday at 10pm, can be described as folk-rock but are not afraid to experiment with different genres to create something new. Their line-up is Shannen Byrne (vocals/ukulele/guitar ), Míchéal Smith (vocals/guitar ), Daniel Montgomery (bass ), and Keith Saul (percussion/glockenspiel ).
Admission is free for both shows. For more information see guinnessamplify.com
