The third Connacht Property Auction of 2014 was held on September 18 in the Menlo Park Hotel, Galway. The auction team noted strong interest in the lead up to the auction and indeed most of the properties on offer were successfully sold. Interestingly there were in excess of 300 recorded viewings on the various properties in the lead up to the auction which shows the pick-up in demand for properties. Of the 23 properties on offer, there were six properties in Galway and seven in Mayo, along with properties in Clare, Roscommon, Leitrim, and elsewhere around Connacht.
There was particularly strong interest in a five bedroom dormer in Muckanagh, Carraroe, Co Galway. The auction team received some 25 enquiries on this property prior to the auction, and the interest continued in the room with 12 bids being placed on the night, with the hammer falling at €140,000.
Another property that attracted strong interest prior to the auction was Carnakelly South, Athenry, Co Galway. This substantial three bed bungalow on c0.80 acre of mature gardens was offered to the market in good condition and a strong bid of €196,000 was accepted by the vendors before the auction event.
An impressive 20 of the 23 properties offered were sold, giving the auction team an 87 per cent success ratio. “There is certainly an increase in activity in the market and we had multiple enquiries and viewings on all the properties offered here tonight,” said Patrick Folan of the Connacht Property Auction. “The key to the success of our auction is that both cash buyers and mortgage purchasers can buy through the auction, ensuring we give everyone a fair chance at buying.
