Euro title headlines kickboxing fight night

A European title fight is the headline event at the Galway Black Dragon Kickboxing Club’s fight night on Saturday in the Menlo Park Hotel.

Current All Ireland welterweight champion Paul "the Hurricane" Huish from the host club will take on three-times national champion of France Jonathan Maine, a veteran of some 54 contests with 47 wins and two draws.

Huish from Knocknacarra and his opponent will battle it out over a scheduled five gruelling rounds for the vacant IKF European Super Lightweight K-1 crown.

Another big fight on the card will see current IKF 5 Nations super welterweight champion Charlie "the Iceman" Ward from the Galway camp make a mandatory first defence of his title to British champion Gareth Evans from Romford in the UK.

Catherine "Cool Chic" Cullinan from Claregalway, another Black Dragon fighter, is the current IKF 5 Nations featherweight champion and she will also make a mandatory first defence of her crown to number one seed Charmaine Kelly from Derry.

Black Dragon fighters Cian McCormack and James Kelly, from Kinvara and Athenry respectively, will both look to become Junior All Ireland K-1 champions on the night also.

McCormack takes on Rytis Danielius from Waterford for the IKF Irish junior lightweight title, and Kelly faces Jack Power from Dungarvan for the IKF Irish junior flyweight belt.

Former Irish light welterweight champion Regina Fanning from Thurles will fight Southern England champion Sarah Worsfold from Romford in an official IKF eliminator bout with the winner getting a crack at the current IKF 5 Nations champ early next year.

Adam Keane from Tuam, the current Irish No 1 seed, will take on No 2 seed Johnny Mc Donagh from Wexford in another official eliminator bout with the winner earning a title shot against current Irish super welterweight champ David Rusinak in Tullamore in November.

Two-times All Ireland kickboxing champion Leona Trautt from Renmore will make her boxing debut on the night also against Jurgeita Paciute from Cavan.

Doors open to the public at 6.30pm with the first fight scheduled for 7pm sharp. A limited number of tickets are available at the door.
