President Higgins to visit Circle Of Life garden

Uachtaráin na hÉireann Michael D Higgins will be returning to Galway on Saturday September 27 to visit the Circle of Life garden in Salthill.

President Higgins will be guest of honour when he visits Circle of Life, the national organ donor commemorative garden, in Quincenntenial Park, Salthill, at 2pm.

His visit to the garden is organised in conjunction with his attendance at the Organ Donation Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving at Galway Cathedral, which is organised by the Irish Kidney Association.

The decision to hold the service in Galway is to provide the public with an opportunity to visit the garden which was formally opened earlier this summer.

There will be a performance of The Spirit of Giving, with music composed by Kathie Prince, and choreography by Patricia Glynn. It incorporates a dedication by heart recipient Terry Mangan to his donor, and a poem, dedicated to recipients, by Martina Goggin, parent of Éamonn, an organ donor. Following this performance President Higgins will address the assembly.

The Circle of Life is the first national garden of its kind to commemorate organ donors. It was created by Galway charity, the Strange Boat Donor Foundation, in partnership with the Galway City Council.
