Galway WFC exit FAI Cup

Galway WFC came unstuck against favourites Raheny United in the FAI Continental Tyres Women’s Senior Cup.

A Katie McCabe double and a first-half Rebecca Creagh strike saw holders Raheny progress to a third semi-final in a row.

Creagh gave the defending champions the lead over Galway WFC with a penalty strike after 34 minutes at Eamonn Deacy Park - a goal which came against the run of play.

Galway had started brightly with some slick passing and they were unlucky not to go in level at the break as Marie Curtin saw her shot come back off the crossbar just before half time.

However Katie McCabe’s second-half double put the Dublin side 3-0 up, and although Galway never gave up, Curtin’s late penalty was not enough for GWFC to upset the odds.
