The countdown is on to the Enable Ireland No Limits Gym Challenge. This is the inaugural All Ireland Gym Challenge, where teams of four spend 10 minutes each on the bike, crosstrainer, rower and treadmill, in order to record the furthest distance travelled and qualify for the All Ireland final in City West Hotel, Dublin on October 19. There are nine regional heats in total and the Galway heat takes place in NUIG Kingfisher Gym this Saturday, September 13. To register, teams must raise a minimum of €200.
Commenting on the challenge, Enable Ireland’s Sharon Meehan said, “There has been great support and interest so far in the challenge. On the day we expect to have representatives from the local Garda Siochána, the Defence Forces, fire services, Galway football, camogie and hurling teams, Enable Ireland Services, along with the many fit individuals from our clubs and gyms throughout the city and county.
“Having teamed up with NUIG Kingfisher means we have the luxury of extra equipment to run off up to six teams at any one time, as well as having the comfort of lots of space in top class facilities. We’re really looking forward to a great event,” she said.
Enable Ireland Galway supports children in the city and county with physical and developmental difficulties through its many support services. Speaking about the organisations fundraising objectives in 2014, Ms Meehan said; “Unfortunately the demand for our services is increasing every year and we currently have over 500 children on our books.
“To provide these children with the best possible service one of our main fundraising objectives this year is to purchase an accessible bus. We are asking as many people as possible throughout the city and county to support our cause by entering the Gym Challenge on September 13”
