Established in 1986, the Regina Rogers School of Ballet is celebrating its 27th year of teaching dance in the west of Ireland.
The school has built a reputation for excellence and is well known for its links with Russian ballet. Over the years its students have performed at countless charity events, fashion shows, oyster festivals, and exhibitions. The school has also had television performances on both RTE and the BBC. Some pupils have gone on to pursue careers in dance in both the UK and the United States. Most recently, Darragh Keaveney, a student with the school for 16 years, has been accepted by the prestigious Broadway Academy in New York.
The aim of the ballet school is to promote and foster a love of dance. Children are accepted from four years and upwards. Every alternate year the ballet school performs in the Town Hall Theatre in Galway. This experience is a huge learning curve in the students’ development as they automatically learn about costumes, make-up, stage craft, teamwork, discipline, and of course performance, all of which instil confidence and poise. Most importantly, the pupils attain a great sense of achievement, camaraderie, and joy. A measure of the school’s success is that the majority of the senior students have been with the school for more than 15 years.
The Regina Rogers Ballet School has announced that classes will commence in the new Cappagh Community Centre in Knocknacarra each Wednesday, with early booking essential.
