Most households around the country have an old bodhran lying around somewhere. But most people don’t know how to play it. Well that’s all about to change with the Funky Drums Bodhran courses, running in the Quays Bar, Galway city, beginning the second week of September on Thursday evenings.
The Bodhran is a fantastic sounding drum, which requires great skill and subtlety to play. It has become a hugely popular addition to the trad scene and is enjoying a massive resurgence in Ireland now, with more people realising that it is a highly rewarding instrument to play.
All levels are catered for within the new classes, from the complete beginner who has never played before, to intermediate levels. The classes are all group lessons and are very social. There is an organised trad session every month for all the students to come along and apply what is learned in the classes and have the craic. All drums are provided for.
