Start a rewarding career in Montessori or childcare at Portobello Institute

The early childhood years is the most important development stage for a child, as the experiences he or she has in the first few years set the foundations for relationships and learning throughout their lives.

When working with children, having an understanding of child development is essential, allowing the teacher to understand the emotional, physical, and educational growth that children go through from childhood to adulthood.

Portobello Institute, one of Ireland’s leading educators in childcare, has been delivering part-time and full-time Montessori training courses for more than 25 years, and for autumn it will deliver early years care and education courses in Galway city. Choose from Montessori training, special needs, or childcare disciplines.

Throughout the Montessori course you will learn to develop your skills in early learning, childhood literacy and numeracy, and early childhood arts and culture.

The exercises and materials used in the classroom environment cater towards the senses, developing the child’s concentration and motor skills, all the while encouraging independence at an early age.

Learners can then progress onto part two of the early years programme to achieve a complete common award in early years care and education. Further progression in this sector can be achieved through the new London Metropolitan BA honours degree in early childhood studies, which can be studied either full-time or through blended learning.

Courses at the Portobello Institute start in October. The institute is holding an open day on Wednesday September 17 at the Ardilaun Hotel from 5pm to 7pm.
