Do you have an object from WWI?

Galwegians with stories about relatives who fought in The Great War or who have objects and memorabilia from the period are being asked to take part in an event at the Galway City Museum.

The WWI Open Day takes place in the museum’s Education Room on Saturday September 13 from 11am to 1pm. People are invited to share stories, photos or objects linked to the War years of 1914-18. All stories shared will form part of an online project about the local impact of WW1 on Galway city. Where appropriate, objects may also be considered for display in a forthcoming exhibition.

Also on Saturday, the Irish Great War Society will show a selection of memorabilia from the period in the museum foyer and perform a re-enactment of WWI scenarios in the museum courtyard, portraying the Irish men and women that served in Irish Regiments of the British Army, as well as other corps and voluntary units. Admission is free.

Those interested in taking part in the open day or simply viewing the re-enactment and who would like more information can contact the museum on 091 - 532460 or [email protected]
