Fundraising show for Luis Asturias

MANY OF Galway’s best known bands will be taking to the stage of The Cellar Bar in Eglinton Street tomorrow at 8.30pm for a special fundraising show for Luis Asturias.

Luis Asturias has been one of the most prominent figures in the Galway music scene since arriving from his native Spain 12 years ago. He has played with many local bands and songwriters, most famously as bassist with Charis.

Recently Luis was diagnosed with a rare disease called amyloidosis which has affected his heart. His condition has worsened in the form of multiple myeloma; a type of blood cancer for which he is currently receiving treatment at UCHG.

Luis’ best long-term option is to receive an urgent cardiac transplant. A Spanish cardiologist has agreed to operate on him, however the cost for this procedure is substantial hence a major concern at present.

On the night in The Cellar there will be performances from No Banjo, Pyramid, Kif, Tightrope, Riff Raff, FYC, and folk-rockers Breakdown Rambler, as well as a number of guests.

Admission is €10. There will also be a raffle on the night with prizes.

Donations for Luis’ treatment can be made to AIB account number 07034174.
