Galway Ladies exit championship at the hands of Dublin

The Galway ladies tried valiantly against a superior Dublin outfit last Saturday afternoon in Cusack Park in Mullingar in the All-Ireland semi-final before crashing out by 2-14 to 1-13.

Kevin Reidy’s girls were only two points behind at half time on a score-line of 0-10 to 0-8, and had led at one stage in the first half. However two goals for Dublin by Lindsay Peat and Carla Rowe in the second half were critical blows.

Rowe’s goal put the Dubs up by eight points, 2-12 to 0-10, but to their credit, the Galway women did not throw in the towel and fought back very well to make a real contest of it in the last 10 minutes.

Sterling work from Barbara Hannon and veteran Annette Clarke, who goaled from a penalty and struck two frees, kept the tie alive, but Dublin were too good and qualified for a final meeting with either Cork or Dublin in three weeks’ time.

It was Galway’s third successive semi-final defeat, while it is Dublin’s first All-Ireland final appearance since 2010.
