Galway run for Love/Hate creator's play

Defender Of The Faith to be staged in October

LOVE/HATE creator/writer Stuart Carolan's debut play, Defender Of The Faith, is to be staged in Galway next month, starring Diarmuid De Faoite and directed by Andrew Flynn.

A blackly comic thriller set on an Armagh farm in 1986, Defender Of The Faith tells the story of a family, entrenched in paramilitarism and under the constant watch of the British army. When a visitor arrives with the job of rooting out a police informer, paranoia grips the farm with Joe, his son Thomas, and a long-serving farm hand, Barney, all falling under suspicion.

The play is being staged by Galway based Decadent Theatre company, which recently began reharsals on the work. It will run in the Town Hall Theatre from Thursday October 2 to Saturday 4 (previews ) and from Monday October 6 to Saturday 11.

The creative team includes a host of recent Irish Times award winning and nominated artists including director Andrew Flynn, set designer Owen MacCarthaigh, costume designer Petra Breathnach, and sound designer Carl Kennedy. The cast includes Peter Gowen, Lalor Roddy, Michael Ford Fitzgerald, Diarmuid De Faoite, Anthony Brophy, and David Martin.

Following its Galway run Decadent will tour Defender Of The Faith to Sligo, Cork, Castlebar, Dublin, Roscommon, Cavan, Longford, Ennis, Navan, and Tralee.
