Galway ladies face Dublin on Saturday in all-Ireland semi-final

The Galway ladies footballers will head to Cusack Park in Mullingar this Saturday to face Dublin at 3.15pm in the all-Ireland semi-final following their impressive 0-17 to 0-14 victory over Monaghan last weekend in Birr.

Galway led last weekend by 0-7 to 0-6 at half-time with Caitriona Cormican, Louise Ward, Lorna Joyce, Geraldine Conneally, Lucy Hannon, and Annette Clarke all hitting the target.

Ten Galway players were on the score-sheet for Kevin Reidy’s side and such a spread of scorers is a positive heading to Mulligar this Sunday.

The Galway girls showed great self-belief and maturity to come back from being two points down in the final quarter with points from Aoibheann Daly, Cormican, and two from Olivia Divilly, edging them in front.

They sealed their place in the last four with further scores from Tracey Leonard and a late free from Clarke.

Dublin defeated Kerry by 2-12 to 1-10 in their quarter-final and will provide stiff opposition for the Connacht champions.

Galway team manager Kevin Reidy, while delighted with the win over Monaghan, knows that there will be a step up in performance needed to beat the sky blues.

“In my book Dublin were the favourites before the competition even started. They will take an awful lot of beating, but that is what we are hoping to do.”
