Calling all future filmmakers

The Junior Galway Film Fleadh is looking for entries from filmmakers between the ages of seven to 18 for its Future Filmmakers Short Film Programme.

The closing date for entries is this Friday August 29.

Today’s students are tomorrow’s filmmakers and, in addition to the mix of workshops, script competitions, and panels, the JGFF is seen as the perfect platform to showcase their work on the silver screen.

If you, your friends, school, college, class, youth club, or sports club have made a short film and would like to see it on the big screen and share it with the Galway public, then send it into the JGFF.

It has never been easier to make a film. The key ingredients are some friends and a camera, whether it be a smartphone, tablet, or digital camera, and get filming.

The only rules are that the film must be under 15 minutes and has been made in 2013/14. If the project is not quite complete, a rough cut on DVD is acceptable at submission stage.

Any genre or style of film is acceptable; documentary, animation, drama, action, musical, comedy, sci-fi, horror, or experimental. The organisers of the event also like surprises and encourage entrants not to be afraid to experiment with genres and styles and mix it up.

The winning short will be screened during next year’s Galway Film Fleadh shorts programme. Next summer the lucky winner or winners could be attending the Galway Film Fleadh with some of Ireland’s, and the world’s, most exciting filmmakers.

The Junior Galway Film Fleadh takes place from November 12 to 15.
