Olwen Fouéré wins award at Edinburgh fringe

A THEATRE show produced by, and which premiered at the Galway International Arts Festival, has been impressing audiences at Edinburgh, where it also scooped an award.

Riverrun, featuring acclaimed theatre artist Olwen Fouéré, opened this weekend at Edinburgh’s Traverse Theatre as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and this week Fouéré was awarded a Stage Award for Acting Excellence by The Stage, Britain’s leading weekly theatre and entertainment industry newspaper.

“I am delighted to receive this generous acknowledgement from The Stage,” said Ms Fouéré. “It has been a great pleasure to bring riverrun to audiences from Galway to London and now Edinburgh, and experience how they are carried by the magic of Finnegans Wake and Joyce’s unique language.

Produced by TheEmergencyRoom and Galway International Arts Festival, in association with Cusack Projects Limited, riverrun has enjoyed national and international acclaim since it premiered at the Galway Festival in July 2013.

The show was adapted by Fouéré from the final section of James Joyce’s Finnegans Wake. Riverrun runs at the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh, until August 24 and tours to BAM, New York, from September 1 to 20 and afterwards to Princeton University.
