FOLLOWING HIS sold-out arts festival show, where he was accompanied by a string quartet, Declan O’Rourke will return in August.
O’Rourke is highly regarded by his peers, and no less a songwriter than Paul Weller said of him: “He writes the sort of classic songs that people don’t write anymore, songs that sound like they’ve been around forever. Listen to ‘Galileo’, which is possibly the greatest song written in the last 30 years.”
‘Galileo’ is from O’Rourke’s acclaimed 2004 debut Since Kyabram. The song has since been covered by Josh Groban, Eddi Reader, Jacqui Dankworth, and Chris Rea. Eddi Reader also recorded O’Rourke’s ‘Love Is The Way’.
The Irishman followed this with Big Bad Beautiful World (2007 ) and Mag Pai Zai (2011 ), the latter going Top 10 in Ireland, while its singles ‘A Little Something,’ and ‘Time Machine’ enjoyed airplay.
O’Rourke plays the Róisín Dubh on Saturday August 16 at 8pm. Another returning arts festival act is the Booka Brass Band on Saturday August 2 at 9pm.
Tickets are available at www.roisindubh.net, the Ticket Desk at OMG Zhivago, Shop Street, and The Róisín Dubh.
