Knocknacarra Football Club secures funding for new FIFA approved pitch

A full sized, FIFA approved, astro turf soccer pitch is to be created in Cappagh Park, following the approval of grant aid of €250,000 to Knocknacarra Football Club.

The funding, which was granted under the Oscar Sports Grant Aid National Funding, will also include the erection of floodlights. The grant was applied for by Galway City Council on a matched funding basis.

Fine Gael Galway West TD Brian Walsh has welcomed the development, saying it is “an exceptional achievement for the club and the community of Knocknacarra, Rahoon and Salthill”.

PRO of the football club Gerry Corbett paid tribute to the “tremendous work” of Dep Walsh and Fianna Fáil councillor Peter Keane in helping the club secure the funding.

“Three years of hard work and planning have gone into this proposal,” said Mr Corbett, “with many helping hands along the way including the interest shown by city manager Brendan McGrath and the willingness to run with the plan in association with the club.”
